David Pickard was one of the youngest general directors in opera today. His vision when taking over the opera house at Glyndebourne was to create a more relaxed and accessible regime, while at the same time carrying on the superb musical standard that is this great opera house's tradition.

 

In May 2015 it was revealed he had taken up the role as artistic director of the BBC Proms, the world's largest music festival, which he told The Guardian newspaper would be a matter of 'evolution not revolution'.
